Practice Clinics

Do you have a question about practising? Or are you struggling with a particular part of a piece and are not sure how to go about practising it?

In our highly popular practice clinics, Graham Fitch answers practising-related questions submitted in advance by Online Academy subscribers and participants in our various courses. The clinics are free to watch live using Zoom and we also make the recordings available via our blog, Facebook page and YouTube channel shortly afterwards (a full archive of past clinic recordings can be viewed here).

Have a Technique Question?

Our next Practice Clinic will take place on Sunday 29th March at 16:30 (BST / GMT +1) as part of this year’s Piano Day celebrations.

As well as the usual range of questions pertaining to practising and related topics, this clinic will also explore topics emerging from the preceding Piano Day presentations, including questions about pedalling, articulation and musical texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m a subscriber to the Online Academy, how do I submit a question?

If you’re already a subscriber, you can access the question submission form for the next clinic by signing in to your dashboard and looking under “Subscription Benefits”. If you’re signed-up to receive emails from us, you will also receive notifications and instructions for participation by email in advance of each event.

Please note that to allow sufficient time for preparation, submissions will be closed two weeks before each event. We are also unable to accept questions that aren’t submitted via this form.

Unfortunately we can’t guarantee that we will respond to every question directly, but we will review all of the submissions and endeavour to cover as many as possible either in this event or in a subsequent one.

I’m not a subscriber, can I still participate?

Although question submission is only available to our Online Academy subscribers, you are most welcome to attend the session live or watch a recording afterwards. You can sign-up to our mailing list using this form to receive notifications of upcoming clinics and links to the recordings.

If you’d like to submit questions or participate in future clinics then you might want to consider subscribing to the Online Academy. Click here to find out more about subscription options or click here to subscribe.

What types of questions are the clinics intended to address?

Practice Clinics are ideal for questions such as:

  • How to structure your practice: what to practise, when and how
  • Using the Practice Tools effectively e.g. slow practice, building speed, feedback loops
  • How to start learning or practising a new piece you’ve chosen
  • Tackling specific problem spots in your playing or repertoire

How do I view videos of past clinics?

Recordings of past practice clinics are available to watch shortly after the event on our blogFacebook page or our YouTube channel.

I missed the cut-off for a session, how do I submit my question?

Once the submissions for a specific session are closed, we will update the links to give access to the form for the next session. Therefore you will be able to submit your question for the next available session.

How do I get updates and notifications of future dates?
